Recommended Sitting Positions with Mudita Oasis: A Guide to Ergonomic Comfort

Meditation posture matters as much as consistency. A stable, well-supported sitting position lets you relax into longer sessions without your body fighting for balance. Here are the most comfortable positions to try with your Mudita Oasis set, and how to adjust the set for each one.

Sukhasana (Easy Cross-Legged Pose)

The classic starting point: sit on the cushion with your legs crossed loosely in front of you, one shin resting in front of the other. Use the bolsters under each knee for support, and adjust the cushion height so your hips sit clearly above your knees. See How to Adjust the Mudita Oasis Seat Height and Firmness for the full breakdown of configurations.

Burmese Position

Instead of crossing your shins, place one leg in front of the other, both resting flat on the floor. This position reduces pressure on the knees and hips and is a good alternative if Sukhasana feels tight. The bolsters still help keep your legs supported and prevent them from sliding.

Half-Lotus

Rest one foot on the opposite thigh while the other leg folds in front of you. This gives a more grounded, stable base, but it does require more hip flexibility, so ease into it gradually and don't force the position if it feels strained.

Seiza (Kneeling Position)

Kneel with the cushion turned onto its side, placed vertically between your calves, and sit back onto it. This takes the weight off your ankles and knees and works well for people who find cross-legged positions uncomfortable. See How to Use the Mudita Oasis Bolster for more on positioning the bolster in this configuration.

Finding What Works for You

There's no single correct position. The right one is whichever lets you sit still and relaxed for the length of your practice. Feel free to switch between positions across sessions, or even within a single sitting if your body needs a change.
